The Miracle Cure - Does Red Rice Cure Cancer?
07.09.2010 23:44

THE FACTS TO DATE

The miracle component is an extract of red yeast rice and is that which gives dishes such as Peking Duck its distinctive red colour. Scientists have claimed that if their findings are correct, it could CUT CANCER DEATHS BY A STAGGERING TWO-THIRDS and HEART DISEASE BY A THIRD.

In terms of heart disease, scientists feel that the extract has the potential to play an important part in improving heart health as initial findings indicate that it's performance is better than statins, the traditional drugs prescribed routinely for the treatment of high cholesterol.

When given to patients who had already suffered from at least one heart attack, the chances of a repeat attack were reduced by an amazing 45%.

No individual results are available for the types of cancers which were treated in the study group. However, scientists claimed to be "confident" that the initial findings are significant.

A leading doctor, David Capuzzi gave the following warning though.

"It is important to recognize that we do not know exactly how Chinese red yeast rice works...the capsules used in the study were carefully prepared for the research and are not the same as the red yeast supplements available in health food stores"

He and other doctors have strongly warned against buying over the counter supplements to self-medicate saying that these would not have the same effect. In addition, doctors have confirmed that consuming huge quantities of red rice would not be beneficial. Indeed either of these two practices could be dangerous.

We can only await further findings with great interest. I, for one, will be keeping a very close eye on developments.

ALTERNATIVE CANCER TREATMENTS

Although I am very much an advocate of alternative therapies and treatments, personally I would never recommend omitting standard medical and surgical treatments for cancer. However, I do feel that alternative complementary therapies can work very well alongside traditional treatments and a book I have discovered recently exemplifies this perfectly.

The book is called THE ALTERNATIVE TREATMENT-OVER 350 CANCER TREATMENTS THAT WORK.

In addition, the price includes 3 further ebooks completely free of charge.

Here is the total package:

At such a difficult and sensitive time, it is essential to have all the means to hand to combat this condition and these books provide comprehensive and workable remedies and, it is claimed, strategies for curing cancer.

Red yeast rice

Overview:

Red yeast rice has been used for centuries in China as both a food and a medicinal product. It is made by fermenting a type of yeast called Monascus purpureus over red rice. In Chinese medicine, red yeast rice is used to lower cholesterol, promote blood circulation and aid digestive problems.

Research has shown that red yeast rice contains substances that are similar to prescription statin medications. one of these substances, called monacolin K, has the same makeup as the drug lovastatin. Statins are prescribed to lower "bad" LDL cholesterol levels and help reduce the risk of heart disease.

Researchers aren't sure if the cholesterol-lowering effect of red yeast rice was due to the presence of lovastatin or other compounds in red yeast rice. But because many red yeast rice supplements did contain lovastatin, the Food and Drug Administration considered them to be drugs, not supplements, and required that manufacturers remove any red yeast rice products that contained lovastatin from the market. As a result, many of the red yeast rice products now on the U.S. market may not contain lovastatin, and it is very difficult for a consumer to find out which ones do and which ones don't.

Therapeutic Uses:

Prevention

Red yeast rice has been shown in several studies to lower "bad" LDL cholesterol levels. High cholesterol levels increase the risk of heart disease. Research has shown that red yeast (Monascus purpureus) stops the action of an enzyme in the body called HMG-CoA reductase, which helps make cholesterol. Red yeast rice contains substances known as monacolins. one of these, monacolin K, has the same chemical makeup as lovastatin, a prescription drug that lowers cholesterol. Some researchers think that this substance is responsible for red yeast rice's cholesterol-lowering properties. But others note that the amount of lovastatin in red yeast rice is below what you would find in the prescription drug, and think there may be other substances in red yeast rice that help lower cholesterol. More study is needed.

Treatment

Several studies suggest that red yeast rice significantly reduces high cholesterol. However, most of the studies have used a formulation of red yeast rice -- Cholestin -- that is no longer available in the U.S. Although a product called Cholestin is available, it no longer contains red yeast rice. The Food and Drug Administration requires any red yeast product discovered to contain lovastatin to be taken off the market. It may be hard for American consumers to know what the red yeast rice product they buy contains.

These studies support the ability of red yeast rice to lower cholesterol:

  • A 2008 study compared a group of people with high cholesterol who took fish oil and red yeast rice with a group who took a standard dose of simvastatin. The red yeast rice was purchased directly from the manufacturer and contained lovastatin, but at a lower dose than what you would find in the prescription drug. Both groups saw a similar reduction in cholesterol levels.
  • One study by the UCLA School of Medicine involved 83 people with high cholesterol levels. Those who received red yeast rice over a 12-week period experienced significantly lower levels of total cholesterol, "bad" LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides (fats in the blood) compared to those taking placebo. "Good" HDL cholesterol levels did not change in either study group.
  • A study presented before the American Heart Association also showed that red yeast rice lowered LDL cholesterol. In the first study, 187 people had mild-to-moderate elevations in total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol. The study showed that treatment with red yeast rice reduced total cholesterol by more than 16%, LDL cholesterol by 21%, and triglycerides by 24%. HDL cholesterol also increased by 14%.
  • In another 8-week study of 446 people with high cholesterol, those receiving red yeast rice had a significant drop in cholesterol levels compared to those who took placebo. Total cholesterol fell by 22.7%, LDL by 31%, and triglycerides by 34% in the red yeast rice group. HDL cholesterol increased by 20% in the red yeast rice group as well.

Dietary Sources:

Red yeast rice is used in powdered form as a food coloring in Asia and in Chinese communities in North America, most commonly for coloring fish, alcoholic beverages, and cheese.

Dosage and Administration:

Red yeast rice is an ingredient in several commercially available combination supplement products that are marketed to promote heart health. Red yeast rice is also available in commercial preparations. one of the proprietary products most often studied was Cholestin, which contained lovastatin. However, the Food and Drug Administration required the manufacturer to remove that product from the market. The current formulation of Cholestin does not contain red yeast rice.

Pediatric

People younger than 20 years should not use red yeast rice supplements.

Adult

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the dosage of dietary or supplemental red yeast rice is as high as 6,000 - 9,000 mg per day. But the appropriate dosage for adults may vary, depending on the form of the supplement. Most studies have used standardized extract: use 600 mg (oral doses), two to four times daily.

Precautions:

It's not clear whether it is safe to use red yeast rice for longer than 12 weeks.

People with liver disease and those at risk for liver disease should not take red yeast rice. Red yeast rice may affect liver function in the same way prescription cholesterol-lowering medications can.

The following people should not take red yeast rice: people with kidney disease, people with thyroid disorders, those at higher risk of cancer, and those with musculoskeletal disorders.

People who drink more than two alcoholic beverages a day, have a serious infection or physical disorder, or have undergone an organ transplant should also avoid using red yeast rice.

Side Effects

Side effects of red yeast rice are rare but can include:

  • Headache
  • Stomach ache or bloating
  • Gas
  • Dizziness
  • Heartburn
  • Muscle aches and weakness -- this can lead to a serious condition called rhabdomyolysis, and you should stop taking red yeast rice immediately and call your doctor

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Pregnant and breastfeeding women should not take red yeast rice.

Pediatric Use

People under 20 should not take red yeast rice until more research is done.

Geriatric Use

No studies have specifically looked at the safety of red yeast rice in older adults. However, elderly people who took 1,200 mg per day of red yeast rice in an 8-week study had no significant side effects.

Interactions and Depletions:

Cholesterol-lowering medications -- Red yeast rice should not be taken with cholesterol-lowering medications unless supervised by your doctor. Red yeast rice may make the effect of these drugs stronger, increasing the risk of liver damage. If you are already taking a statin or other drug to lower cholesterol, talk to your doctor before adding red yeast rice to your regimen.

Anticoagulants (blood-thinners) -- Red yeast rice may increase the risk of bleeding.

Grapefruit juice -- If you take a statin, grapefruit and grapefruit juice can increase the amount of the drug in your blood. That can increase your risk of side effects and liver damage. Because red yeast rice may act like statins in the body, you should avoid drinking grapefruit juice or eating grapefruit while taking red yeast rice.

Coenzyme Q10 -- Statins can lower the amount of Coenzyme Q10 in the body. CoQ10 is very important in heart and muscle health and in energy production. Side effects of CoQ10 depletion include fatigue, muscle aches and pains, and muscle damage. Red yeast rice also may lower amounts of CoQ10 in the body. Ask your doctor about taking 150 - 200 mg CoQ10 at night while you are taking red yeast rice products, and for 4 weeks after you stop taking red yeast rice.

Rice-based Diets

Rice is the most important cereal crop for human consumption. It is the staple food for over 3 billion people (most of them poor) constituting over half of the world's population. All of the world's great civilizations developed only after the domestication of various cereal grains, which provided an adequate food supply for large populations. These have included corn in the Americas, wheat in the Near East and southern Europe (Greece and Rome), and rice in China and India. The use of rice spread rapidly from

China, India, and Africa, and at the present time it is used as a principal food throughout the world. After the discovery of the Americas, the use of rice took hold in both continents. The national dish of Belize in Central America, for example, is composed of rice and beans. There are now hundreds of rice recipes, with each ethnic cuisine having developed individual recipes. Almost all cookbooks have rice recipes, including recipes for risottos and pilafs. Vegetarians, in particular, cherish rice because it is such an excellent food and can be prepared in so many different and appetizing ways. Rice, delicious in itself, readily takes on any flavor that is added. Long-grain rice, when cooked, becomes separate and fluffy, while medium-grain rice is somewhat chewier. Short-grain rice tends to clump together and remains sticky with its starchy sauce. Arborio is an example of a short-grained rice. Wehani rice has a nutty flavor. Basmati rice (aromatic) is very popular, as is jasmine rice.

Rice is the only subsistence crop grown in soil that is poorly drained. It also requires no nitrogen fertilizer because soil microbes in the rice roots fix nitrogen and promote rice growth. Rice adapts itself to both wetlands and dry soil conditions.

Nutritional Properties

Rice is a high-carbohydrate food with 85percent of the energy from carbohydrate, 7 percent from fat , and 8 percent from protein . However, rice also has a considerable amount of protein, with an excellent spectrum of amino acids . The protein quality of rice (66%) is higher than that of whole wheat (53%) or corn (49%). Of the small amount of fat in brown rice, much is polyunsaturated . White rice is extremely low in fat content.

A cup of cooked rice has approximately 5 grams of protein, which is sufficient for growth and maintenance, provided that a person receives adequate calories to maintain body weight or to increase it, if full growth has not yet occurred. Asiatic children for whom rice is the chief food source have not developed protein deficiency disorders such as kwashiorkor , as have infants

that are fed corn or cassava as a chief staple after weaning. Growth and development are normal on a rice diet . Due to its easy digestibility, rice is a good transition food after the cessation of breast or formula feeding.

Rice and Thiamine Deficiency

In Asiatic populations, rice has been, and still is, a main source of nutrition . Thiamine, or vitamin B 1 , is contained in the outer husk and coating of the rice kernel. When the technology for polishing rice became available, people took to eating white rice in preference to brown rice, but that process removed thiamine, causing beriberi, or thiamine deficiency, in many people, as well as heart and nerve diseases.

Dutch physicians in Java and Japanese physicians particularly noted the occurrence of beriberi with edema , heart failure, neuropathy , and many deaths. Thiamine, of course, was an unknown substance at that time. The history of rice is of interest in illustrating how the technology to make a food more appetizing (i.e., white rice versus brown rice) led to an epidemic of a new disease for those populations whose food intake was largely based upon rice. Studies by physicians in Japan and in Indonesia led to a cure for beriberi that included a more varied diet, plus the use of rice husks and the outer coatings of rice, which contained thiamine.

Today, much of the rice consumed is either enriched with thiamine or parboiled, which leads to retention of thiamine in the matrix of the white rice kernel. Beriberi, as a disease from the consumption of white rice, is now rare if the rice is parboiled or enriched. However, some varieties of polished (white) rice may not be enriched with thiamine. Thus, when thiamine intake from other food sources is limited, thiamine deficiency could still occur. In the United States, thiamine deficiency typically occurs in chronic alcoholics.

Rice for Medical Therapy and Prevention

Rice has been the mainstay of treatment for a number of conditions, particularly for hypertension at a time when few effective drug therapies were available. In the 1940s, Walter Kempner developed a treatment for mild, and even malignant , hypertension at Duke University. His hypothesis was that a low-protein diet, free of salt, would be an effective treatment. He devised the "rice diet," which consisted of rice, fruits, and vegetables. This treatment had good results: the blood pressure of his patients fell, and even malignant hypertension was partially reversed. In addition, blood cholesterol levels also fell. Since this was a cholesterol-free and low-fat diet, it was one of the first to document a cholesterol-lowering effect from diet.

The other therapeutic role of rice is in the treatment of allergies . Rice seems to be nonallergenic, and rice milk has been fed to infants allergic to cow's milk. Rice proteins have also been incorporated into standard infant formulas.

Genetic Engineering of Rice

"Golden rice" was genetically engineered to contain beta-carotene, not present in standard rice, to combat the widespread vitamin A deficiency and ensuing blindness in the children of the developing world. Beta-carotene is a vitamin A precursor that is converted to the vitamin by enzymes of the intestinal mucosa . Vitamin A, or retinol, is then absorbed and transported to the tissues, including the structures of the eye. Golden rice would thus seem to be an advance in the fight against vitamin A deficiency in rice-eating populations. However, there are some concerns about golden rice and other genetically engineered foods. Genetically engineered products have not necessarily been proven safe, and environmental or social risks may outweigh potential benefits that they may bring about.

Clinical trials of golden rice are needed before it is accepted universally. only when it is clearly determined that it can prevent vitamin A deficiency in experimental animals, and that it presents no hazards, will this genetically engineered food be considered safe for use in human nutrition. Further, society itself must also decide if genetically created foods are acceptable, a point currently in dispute.

Sequencing the Rice Genome

Since the 1960s, the "green revolution" has improved the yield of rice, and now the "green genome revolution" may bring about further improvements. The rice genome has now been sequenced, an achievement of great importance. The sequence of the rice genome will provide the template for the sequencing of other grasses (maize, barley, wheat, etc.). The genome sequences are now known for the japonica rice favored in Japan and other countries with a temperate climate, and for the indica subspecies of rice grown in China and most other parts of Asia. This knowledge will permit a future harnessing of genes for disease prevention, drought resistance, nutritional improvement, and many other possible modifiable features of rice. As a recent issue of Science suggested, a "green gene revolution" is needed to meet the challenge of "population growth, loss of arable land and climate changes."

In summary, rice is an inexpensive, easily prepared, and delicious food. It is also a very nutritious food that benefits humans all over the world.

This probably should add that fantastic, at first glance, the effectiveness of marine Rice reaffirmed the centuries-old practice of its application, clinical and laboratory medical research.

Apply this "healing rice with lupus and multiple sclerosis. Treats tincture of this fungus and a whole bunch of endocrine diseases.

Indian rice compared with their "family" - Kombucha and Tibetan - is the most salubrious.

Infusion of Indian rice - an indispensable means of arthritis, osteoporosis, sciatica.

Note the wide range of therapeutic effects and extremely high efficiency of extracts obtained using the sea of rice. This means that the marine rice as a natural remedy, can replace large quantities of synthetic drugs and pharmaceuticals, which sometimes cause enormous damage to our health, polluting the human body.

Clinical and Laboratory investigations have established that infusion of the sea of rice is completely harmless to human body, which is especially important to know when to make a choice, than to be treated: "living medicine or synthetic pharmaceuticals or a combination of both.
Shingles

Impetigo - a staphylococcal or streptococcal infection of the skin. A person exposed to the disease at any age, but especially the children are predisposed to it. If a person who has had this disease, the patient touches the skin with his hands, he always will be infected. When an accurate treatment of affected skin of impetigo can be cured in two weeks.

Finger dip in undiluted tincture of Indian rice, and is applied to the lesions on the skin 6 times a day. This impetigo disappear after 2 - 4 days.
Ringworm (trichophytosis)

Fungal disease of the skin, hair and nails. Superficial lesion smooth skin looks severely limited, round, slightly swollen spots, in which, in most cases we can distinguish two zones: the peripheral spotty-Bubble korochkovy roller and peeling center. Most often they appear on the back and in any place of the hairy body.

Method of treatment: apposition undiluted extracts of Indian rice to the affected area 6 times a day. Indian rice - excellent antiseptic.
Weakness or chronic fatigue

Taking on the night of 2 hours spoon of Indian rice, 30 minutes later you fall asleep soundly. If this is not enough, once again drink 2 tsp, but if you wake up at night - again.

It is advisable to make rubbing hands divorced Indian rice. At half a cup of warm water, add 1 tbsp. spoonful of Indian rice. Pour in the palm of the cup about 1 teaspoons of the solution. First, rub this solution one arm and shoulder and then gradually the same amount of solution chest, abdomen, back, thighs, legs and finally feet. Towel not required. Instead, rub the surface well with both hands to complete absorption of the solution, and it is absorbed very quickly.
Chronic headache

Certain types of severe chronic headache doctors regard as migraine. Active or classic symptoms, however, quite specific. Before the headache begins, a man has to have some preliminary symptoms. This spot or a flash of light before his eyes. It hurts one side of the head - migraine word meaning "half head" - is often observed nausea and other digestive disorders.

Increase your daily intake of acid, using Indian rice, which gives a positive effect.

Traditional medicine considers the effectiveness of another way of using Indian rice in the treatment of migraine. This - a poultice (steam bath). Put the pan into the fire with an equal quantity of Indian rice or water and allow the water to slow boil. When its surface begins to steam up, tilt his head over the basin and hold until the pair will be more or less strong. Inhale 75 times. Usually after this headache stops. If it reappears, it will be about twice as less. Such steam bath can be replaced headache tablets.
High blood pressure (hypertension)

Hypertension - one of the most serious medical problems. This is a fairly common phenomenon, and at the same time very serious condition of the body. There is almost a certain relationship between high blood pressure, and human adaptability to the environment.

It is recommended to increase the daily consumption of acid in the organic form, such as apples. Every necessary to keep the number of fruit, equivalent to four glasses of juice. They can eat at any time convenient for you. If you are using Indian rice, drink it in 2 cups per day.
Dizziness

Prerequisite of vertigo is alkaline urine. When the reaction is changed to acid, dizziness diminishes or disappears altogether. In order to prevent dizziness traditional medicine employs treatment with the help of Indian rice, dosage and duration of admission are the same as used in the treatment of other ailments.
